Emily Spencer’s poetry is published or upcoming in Kenyon Review, Pleiades, Cosmonauts Avenue, English Journal, and elsewhere. She is an MFA candidate at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop (Spring 2021) and earned an MFA in poetry from Boston University. Spencer is the recipient of a Kenyon Review Peter Taylor Teaching Fellowship and Boston University Global Writing Fellowship. 

Her book manuscript was a finalist for the 2020 Walt McDonald First Book Contest, Texas Tech University Press.

A former teacher for Boston Public Schools, she works for the Iowa Youth Writing Project. Founded in 2020, she is the editor in chief of Well Poetry Review and Black Poetry Review (coming soon).
